How to Offer Trial Periods on Recurring Invoices

Overview
Set up a free or reduced-rate trial period before normal recurring billing begins.

Steps

1. Create a new recurring invoice template or edit an existing one.

2. Under Billing Frequency, choose your interval (e.g. Monthly).

3. In Total Count, enter the number of trial cycles (e.g. 1 for one free month).

4. Set Unit Price of line-items to zero (or reduced rate) for those initial cycles.

5. After the trial count, adjust the template to regular pricing for subsequent cycles.

6. Save.

Tips

• Clearly note “Trial Period” in the description field for client transparency.

• Send a reminder email before the trial ends—configure under Settings > Finance Settings.

Troubleshooting / FAQs

• Q: Trial invoice charged the full amount.

  • A: Make sure the line-item price for the trial cycle is set to 0.

• Q: Subsequent invoices remained at trial rate.

  • A: Update the template price after the trial or set Total Count to −1 for infinite cycles at regular rate.
